CLM’s upcoming Construction Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 27 will feature a brand-new location as we deliver the high-impact sessions you have come to expect on the biggest topics facing construction claims professionals.

“We are thrilled to announce that the upcoming CLM Construction Conference will be held in Austin, Texas for the very first time,” says Conference Co-Chair Phyllis Modlin, director and senior counsel at Markel. “I can assure you that this event will be nothing short of exceptional, bringing together industry leaders, experts, and professionals from all corners of the construction world.”

Modlin adds, “With Austin as our backdrop, known for its vibrant culture, innovative spirit, and world-class facilities, this conference promises to be an unforgettable experience. CLM has curated a diverse lineup of speakers who will share their insights and expertise on an array of subjects relating to both defect and construction site accident claims, including emerging technologies, sustainable practices, project management, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.”

Thursday morning’s premier session will be a can’t-miss experience, featuring chief claims officers and senior leaders discussing their goals as well as the issues and challenges they face—and how these latest trends ultimately impact their entire team at the claims desk level. Among the topics these knowledge leaders will discuss is social inflation and its impact on the construction claims landscape.

Per Larry Beemer, vice president, claims at Tokio Marine HCC, who will be speaking on the panel, “This is an important topic as it will underscore how serious this issue has become for the profitability of carriers and how claim departments and their defense firms can have an effect on the outcome of these issues. The conversation on this issue should provide information on how social inflation is affecting claim values and what carriers can do to avoid large awards.”

Beemer will be joined by Carolyn Crawford, Nationwide Insurance Company; Dan Ducommun, MC Consultants; Krista Glenn, Westfield Specialty; Michael Hinojosa, National Claim Services; Robin Kahn, Chubb; and Pat Nails, Arch Insurance Group. Additional topics to be discussed in this session include: problem jurisdictions, the new generation of jurors, nuclear verdicts, litigation metrics, new products, and emerging theories of liability.

This year will also feature the Construction Conference’s inaugural First Timer Event, intended to show new attendees how to make the most of their time. First timers will learn networking tips from seasoned conference pros, what the “can’t miss” activities are on the agenda, and how to ensure that the conference meets their needs and goals. This event will precede the Welcome Reception on Wednesday.

Stephen Henning, conference co-chair and founding partner at Wood Smith Henning & Berman, says, “Unique to CLM conferences is the roundtable format, which truly is conducive to high level discussions with the participants. Whether you are a legal professional, an insurance expert, a construction executive, or a consultant, this conference is designed to provide you with valuable networking opportunities, educational sessions, and thought-provoking discussions. CLM’s goal is to foster collaboration and promote excellence within the construction industry.”

Join us Sept. 27-29 at the Hilton Austin to learn more about the big issues and emerging trends impacting all facets of the construction industry. And, as is CLM’s custom, there will be plenty of networking time with fellow attendees and presenters at our two cocktail receptions.
