Biography

John Sparks is Of Counsel with the firm of Fowler Hirtzel  McNulty & Spaulding. His roles with the firm include the implementation and management of the firm’s data collection and file quality programs, training the firm’s associates and business development.
Mr. Sparks oversees a broad range of activities related to the firm’s quality programs. He analyzes data from closed files to assure that the firm aggressively manages total case cost to the client.  He regularly meets with file handlers to review cases, emphasizing the need to establish and follow a case specific litigation plan. He reviews firm bills for compliance with client and firm guidelines to assure that each entry adds value to the file.  He meets with clients to review firm performance and closed file data.  Mr. Sparks also serves as a resource for all firm lawyers on issues such as resolution strategies, trial tactics and cost efficient file management.
Mr. Sparks has tried over 70 cases to verdict, primarily defending doctors and hospitals accused of medical negligence.  Many of the cases involved catastrophic injuries.  He has also tried a number of significant casualty cases during his career.  Prior to joining FHMS, Mr. Sparks served in a number of management positions with a large regional defense firm. He served as the firms co-managing partner and was the longtime managing partner of the firm’s Lancaster office.
Mr. Sparks is a former Chair of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Sports Law and has spoken nationally on issues concerning medical negligence and risk avoidance in school sports programs.
