Biography

Niva M. Harney-Hiller is a partner in the firm’s Miami, Florida office. Ms. Harney was born and raised in Antigua, West Indies. She completed her undergraduate studies at Florida International University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.B.A. in Finance and Marketing. While completing her undergraduate studies, Ms. Harney was a member of American Marketing Association and the recipient of the 1999 Outstanding Business Student Award for Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. Ms. Harney-Hiller attended law school at the University of Miami, where she was a member of the Black Law Student Association. While in law school, Ms. Harney-Hiller completed an internship with the Florida Supreme Court. She graduated with her Juris Doctor in 2006 and her LL.M. in Maritime and Admiralty Law in 2008. Ms. Harney-Hiller represents hotels, physicians and medical providers, major cruise lines, product manufacturers and distributors, international businesses, transportation companies, underwriters, including major marine domestic and international underwriters in state and federal court. She handles matters stemming from wrongful death, personal injury claims, medical malpractice suits, product liability actions, mass tort and class actions, sexual assault claims, labor and employment, medical malpractice suits, product liability actions, excursion liabilities, negligent security claims, premises liability claims, and claims asserted under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ms. Harney-Hiller is admitted to practice in Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
