Biography

Karen A. Smyth is a Partner at Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, P.C., in the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan office.  Karen has considerable experience in the defense of professional liability cases, including legal malpractice, medical malpractice, and employment practices litigation.  She also regularly counsels employers regarding employment-related issues in addition to defending business owners in a vast array of litigation ranging from class actions to premises liability matters. She participated in establishing the Michigan CLM Chapter, presently serving as its President. Karen is also a graduate of the Litigation Management Institute.  Karen is a licensed attorney in Michigan and New York. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan and its Health Care, Negligence and Litigation Law Sections. She is a co-author on the topic of the statute of limitations and legal malpractice claims featured in the Michigan Defense Quarterly. Karen has been invited to speak to the Oakland University (MI)-William Beaumont Hospital Graduate School of Nurse Anesthetists on the topic of Medical Malpractice. Ms. Smyth earned a B.A. from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York and earned her J.D. from the University of Detroit School of Law.
