Biography

Joe Cowan concentrates his practice on insurance coverage and the defense of insurance companies accused of breach of contract, bad faith and fraud. Joe has extensive experience advising and defending insurers from claims arising from mass catastrophes or natural disasters on the Gulf coast, including Hurricane Katrina and the BP Oil Spill. In addition, Joe defends companies and individuals involved in litigation arising from catastrophic injury or death. His experience also includes trial and appeals in the areas of business torts, products liability, employment litigation, construction litigation, legal malpractice defense and other complex civil litigation.

Joe has published and lectured on numerous topics involving insurance litigation, including defending against business interruption claims, preparing the insurance claim representative for testimony, and using social media to combat insurance fraud.  He is on faculty of CLM's Claims College where he teaches about avoiding and defending against claims of bad faith.
