Judge Gregory P. Holder is a native of Melbourne, Florida. In 1971, he received appointments to the United States Air Force Academy, United States Naval Academy and the United StatesMilitary Academy. He selected West Point and, in 1975, received his B.S. Degree in Engineering and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. While serving as an Armament Systems Development Engineer in the Air Force, he attended evening classes and received his M.B.A. from the University of West Florida in 1978. Judge Holder was selected to attend Stetson University College of Law under the U.S. Air Force Funded Legal Education Program and received his Juris Doctor Degree in 1981. While attending law school, heserved as Associate Editor of the Stetson Law Review and authored several published articles.Upon graduation from law school, he served at a number of stateside and overseas military bases as an Assistant Judge Advocate and Area Defense Counsel. Upon completing his overseas remote tour in Korea, Judge Holder served as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 56th Fighter Wing, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. He resigned his regular commission in 1988 and accepted a USAF Reserve Commission serving at U.S. Special Operations Command from 1988 through 1996. He served from 1996 through 2004 as one of only six Air Force Reserve Military Judges in the world today. At the time of his retirement from the U.S. Air Force Reserve on 1 February 2004, he served as the Chief Reserve Trial Judge for the USAF. He holds the distinction of having been the only Air Force Reserve Judge Advocate holding the certifications of Master Paratrooper Wings, Air Assault Wings, as well as British Parachute Wings. He retired from the USAFR in the rank of Colonel. He is a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Squadron Officer School in residence and is a graduate of both Air Command and Staff Collegeand Air War College by seminar. Judge Holder was awarded the 1996 Florida Bar Military Affairs Committee Clayton B. Burton Award presented annually to an attorney “who demonstrates character and leadership promoting the quality of legal services furnished to military personnel serving in Florida.” In 1999, he was also inducted into the Department of Juvenile Justice District VI Hall of Fame for sustained contributions to the reduction of juvenile crime, thereby increasing public safety. Judge Holder received the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, Robert W. Patton, Outstanding Jurist Award for 1999 - 2000.He also received the Olin Mott Joshua House Golden Heart Award in 2006.On September 8, 1994, Judge Holder was elected in a contested race as Hillsborough County Court Judge, Group 13 and was elected as a Circuit Judge without opposition in July 1996 andagain in 2002 and 2008. Since being elected to the Circuit Bench, Judge Holder has served within the Juvenile Division, Family Law Division, General Civil Division and currently within the Felony Division. Prior to his election to the bench, Judge Holder was a Partner withthe firm of Williams, Reed, Weinstein, Schifino & Mangione, P.A. in Tampa. He practiced in the areas of commercial litigation, eminent domain as well as governmental and administrative law representing banks, corporations, credit unions as well as private clients. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and as Professor and Area Chair of the Law and Ethics Faculty at the University of Phoenix, Tampa Campusesand is a member of the Herbert Goldburg Criminal Law American Inn of Court.
