Stephen Johnson

Biography

Stephen is a consultant, expert witness, arbitrator/umpire and attorney. He is versed in industry standards, claims practices and law applicable to insurers. He has been retained as a claims expert in more than 30 states in five time zones and has testified in jury, bench, federal and state court trials. He was Senior Vice President & Head of Global P&C Claims for Assurant (a Fortune 300 company during his tenure), was head of Claims at the Republic Insurance Group and a Claims Officer at Farmers/Zurich. He was on boards of dirctors of insurers. He has a B.B.A., magna cum laude, in Finance from the University of Missouri, and a JD from Texas Tech University. He started his career in private law practice prior to moving directly into the insurance industry and ultimately into claims executive positions, having been the top-ranking claims officer within two insurance groups. He served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the PCI Claims Committee (2004-2009).  He moderated and presented at a PCI hosted U.S. Congressional briefing on natural disasters.  He was the founding Dean of The CLM's Claims College School of Property Claims. He's also founding Co-Dean of the CLM's Claims College School of Leadership. He was on the Advisory Board of The CLM and on the Board of The CLM Foundation. He has been a licensed attorney since 1982 and is a CLM Certified Claims Professional. He has presented dozens of times at CLM and other forums for CE/CLE credit, including the prestigious American College of Coverage Counsel.
