William Wingertzahn is Senior Vice President, North America Insurance Claims Strategy & Optimization for Sompo. He oversees various North American Claims functions including process optimization and operational health. William also supervises various vendors including special investigation unit, deductible recovery and subrogation. His duties include collaborating with executive leadership to ensure claims strategy integrates seamlessly with broader business objectives and leads initiatives to integrate innovative technologies into claims processes.
Prior to joining Sompo International in May 2014, William was a partner at Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, LLP. At Wilson Elser, William represented clients in complex matters in the state and federal courts of New York and Connecticut. William defended cases in various areas including product liability, premises liability/security, construction defect, property damage, New York Labor Law, subrogation, and toxic torts including lead paint, mold and asbestos. His litigation history also includes the handling of matters in other areas including transportation, medical malpractice, class actions, professional liability, municipal liability, general negligence and environmental matters, including oil spills. William handled all aspects of file management and litigation. He attended the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy and has successfully tried cases to verdict. He also has extensive experience in mediating high profile matters.
William received a B.A. from Fordham University and a J.D. from Pace University School of Law. William is a fellow with Claim Litigation Management (CLM) and a member of the New York State Bar Association, The International Association of Claim Professionals (IACP), Defense Research Institute (DRI) and Association of Professional Insurance Women (APIW).
