Biography

Dr. Laurel A. Royer has developed a technical consulting practice focused on the assessment and evaluation of chemicals, their use and applications, and the associated environmental and health impacts resulting from releases and exposures. Within the highly specialized area of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), Dr. Royer has more than 15 years combined research and scientific consulting expertise. She’s been able to leverage an in-depth knowledge of the chemical sciences as well as the timeline of production and market presence to support a comprehensive understanding of the how, why, and where across manufacturing and other industrial processes to delineate contaminant issues at domestic and international sites of interest.

She has supported the defense of multiple lawsuits involving PFAS manufacturing, AFFF formulations and use, transport and fate (including the biological transformation process that govern the degradation of precursor PFAS), use and disposal practices, remedial activities and technologies assessed and implemented, water treatment options and their efficacy to incorporate appropriate measures into overall environmental management programs. Dr. Royer has supported clients across a myriad of sectors including law firms, manufacturers, and insurance entities.

The consequences of chemical contamination and exposure unequally impacts communities across the globe. Dr. Royer, in her work, speaking engagements, and writing continues to be an advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, especially as it applies to addressing environmental justice challenges.
