Biography

Jeff (a native of Douglas, GA) graduated from South Georgia College in 1990, and then from Mercer University (Bachelor of Business Administration) in 1992. In 1995, Jeff graduated from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law (Juris Doctor).
 
After practicing law in Columbus, Georgia for seven years, Jeff and his wife, Walda, moved back home to Douglas, in 2002, where Jeff practiced law in the areas of business law, estate planning, and general commercial and civil litigation with the law firm of Cottingham & Porter, P.C.
 
 In November 2005, Jeff was appointed by the Honorable Sonny Perdue, Governor of the State of Georgia, as the Solicitor General of the State Court of Coffee County, and served until his appointment as Superior Court Judge in 2012.
 
On April 18, 2012, Jeff was appointed by the Honorable Nathan Deal, Governor of the State of Georgia, as Superior Court Judge of the Waycross Judicial Circuit, and still serves in that capacity.
 
Jeff is very active in many civic activities. He is currently the Chairman of the Waycross Judicial Circuit Domestic Violence Task Force, and he is a member of the Board of Directors of Kids’ Chance of Georgia (past President). Jeff’s previous positions have included President of the Douglas Rotary Club; Chairman of the Planned Gifts Committee of the Coffee Regional Medical Center Foundation; President of the Douglas Bar Association; and member of the Board of Trustees of the South Georgia College Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce, and the Executive Board of Directors of Concerted Services, Inc. 
 
Jeff’s wife, Walda Kight, is the Vice-President of External Affairs at South Georgia State College and she is also very involved in their local community.  Jeff and Walda have two children, Brandon, age 15, and Lauren, age 11.
