Biography

John McClurkin believes that an attorney’s job is to vigorously defend a client’s rights in a cost effective and timely fashion. This means anticipating your opponent’s every move and equipping yourself with the tools to battle effectively and achieve a favorable outcome. This also means to keep the client informed of the progress of each case while providing a clear and efficient path towards resolution.John is the Managing Attorney for Vernis & Bowling of Southern Alabama, LLC located in Mobile, Alabama. He serves the firm’s clients throughout the southern half of Alabama. John has developed a diverse civil litigation practice that includes significant experience with general liability defense, construction law, commercial vehicle liability, private passenger automobile liability, premises liability, insurance coverage and defense, workers' compensation, product liability, maritime law, Jones Act, Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, and title resolution. With an extensive knowledge of both the law and its practical application, John works with clients to resolve complex disputes per arbitration, negotiated settlement, or trial resolution.

Mr. McClurkin has an extensive real-world construction background by virtue of his undergraduate degree in Building Science/Construction Management from Auburn University. After college and prior to becoming an attorney, John worked as a project manager for a large general construction company. Now, he uses his wide-ranging practical knowledge and understanding of commercial construction to serve contractors and their carriers. As an attorney, John also has extensive experience drafting and negotiating contracts for construction work.

He is admitted to practice in Alabama, Florida, and all United States District Courts of Alabama.

Outside of work, John’s top priorities are spending time with his wife and two daughters, and serving the local community through participation in Church activities and civic organizations.
