Biography
Russell Johnston was appointed Chief Executive Officer of QBE’s North American Operations in May 2016. With more than 25 years' experience in the insurance industry in North America, Mr. Johnston has held a range of senior business and operational roles since joining American International Group Inc. (AIG) in 1990. From 2011 to November 2015 Mr. Johnston served as President of AIG Casualty in the Americas, with responsibility for all U.S., Canada, Bermuda, and London-based U.S. Casualty underwriters. He began his insurance career at Chubb as a Commercial Underwriter, prior to his tenure at AIG. Mr. Johnston is based in New York.
Mr. Johnston received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Syracuse University. He has served as the former Chairman of the board of directors of the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) – the most comprehensive source for workers’ compensation insurance data and analysis. He has served on the boards of directors of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation, and LexisNexis Insurance Exchange.
