Elaine Caprio

Biography

Elaine brings to CLM Advisors’ clients more than 25 years of legal, underwriting, and procurement expertise.  Her practice helps insurers, TPAs, self-insured entities, and suppliers to the insurance industry manage their businesses better and more effectively.

Prior to joining CLM Advisors, Elaine served as Vice President and Manager of Corporate Procurement at Liberty Mutual Insurance, and transformed the procurement operation. During 18 years serving as counsel and senior corporate counsel, she successfully handled numerous challenging, complex multi-million dollar insurance and reinsurance claims and suits. As a Vice President and Manager of Ceded Reinsurance, Elaine, together with her team, purchased efficient reinsurance protection, balanced credit risk, and optimized global reinsurer and broker relationships.

Elaine’s engagements at CLM Advisors include:

-Helping technology and service providers work more effectively with carrier procurement executives; optimizing RFP responses; assisting vendors to maintain long term business relationships through strategic supplier management practices;

-Evaluating challenging and complex claims and designing successful negotiation and settlement strategies;

-Reviewing, developing, and re-engineering claims and litigation management best practices to mitigate financial risk;

-Conducting claim reviews and audits;

-Legal counsel selection and evaluation.

Elaine also provides arbitration, mediation, and risk management services (particularly concerning ceded reinsurance, and property and casualty insurance coverage) to insurers, reinsurers, captives, start-ups, private equity firms and hedge funds through her business Caprio Consulting.

Elaine received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Providence College and a J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School. She is an ARIAS*U.S. certified arbitrator and qualified mediator.  She was featured as a Woman to Watch by Business Insurance in 2007.  She served on the ARIAS-U.S. Board of Directors from 2005 to 2011, and as Chairman of the Board from 2011 to 2012.  Elaine currently serves on the Board for the Massachusetts Reinsurance Bar Association (MReBA), and is on the Advisory Board for the annual Business Insurance Women to Watch event.
