Since 1994, Byron Bowles has been representing clients' legal interests. His practice focuses on defending clients in a variety of federal and state civil litigation, including insurance bad faith claims, professional malpractice, employment claims, tort claims defense, complex litigation, Federal Employer's Liability Act (FELA), railroad grade crossing accidents, commercial vehicle accidents, and wrongful death. He defends general tort claims, including defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and product liability claims. Mr. Bowles assists clients in pursuing and defending claims of subrogation and contractual indemnity and appears before the appellate courts in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois.
Mr. Bowles's litigation background includes defending multimillion dollar claims. In his professional malpractice experience, he defends attorneys against legal malpractice and malicious prosecution, and in his railroad defense experience, he defends railroad employees' FELA claims for multiple amputations, cumulative injuries, such as vibration, carpal tunnel, hearing loss and toxic exposure, including asbestos, diesel fuel, and solvent exposure, as well as fatality grade crossing accidents. His experience in toxic tort litigation includes acting as national counsel for asbestos claims defense.In addition to civil litigation defense, Mr. Bowles regularly presents on a variety of topics including bad faith insurance litigation and counsels insurance clients on limiting bad faith exposure through proper and progressive claims handling procedures and practices. He is a member of the National Associate of Railroad Trial Counsel. He is also a member of The Defense Research Institute (DRI) and a member of the DRI committees on Professional Liability, Trucking Law, Insurance Law and Life, Health and Disability Insurance. He is also a member of the Risk Insurance Management Society and the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) and the CLM committee for Insurance Bad Faith.Mr. Bowles served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, achieving the rank of sergeant.
