Jim Saunders is a Regional Claims Manager at Lancer Insurance Company. He holds a Master’s Degree in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution from Creighton University School of Law (2019). He has over thirty years’ experience in managing commercial transportation, property, and casualty insurance claims. He has negotiated settlements to thousands of cases over that time and has participated in hundreds of mediations. He volunteers as a mediator for the Superior Court of Clark County, Washington, and mediated over 100 cases in 2021. Jim is passionate about teaching listening skills, conflict dynamics, negotiation techniques, and mediation practices.
In 2019, Jim was invited to present seminars on conflict and mediation strategies to the Federal Magistrates of the US District Court, District of Tucson, Arizona. He has designed and presented training programs on hidden bias, ethical decision-making, difficult conversations, active listening, negotiations, mediation, claims practices, and dynamics of conflict for the Lancer Claims Department.
Locally, he has developed training courses for Community Mediation Services in Vancouver, Washington. He is a member of the Oregon and Washington Mediation Associations, and has provided training sessions to both organizations. He has presented webinars on the effect of hidden bias on mediation to the Truck Insurance Defense Association (TIDA) and the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance (CLM). He is on the faculty of CLM’s College of Claims Mediation in Baltimore, Maryland. He sits on the Diversity & Inclusion Committees of both CLM and TIDA.
Jim has two adult children and resides in Vancouver, Washington with Michael, his husband of 26 years, Clover the Tabby, and Lady the Rhodesian Ridgeback. When he is not negotiating or mediating, he can be found in the kitchen striving to produce quasi-gourmet meals, or hiking in the lush woods of the Northwest.
