Biography

The Honorable Ingrid L. French, J.W.C. practiced law in the workers’ compensation courts throughout the State of New Jersey for more than 15 years prior to becoming a Judge.  As an attorney, Judge French represented injured workers, employers, insurance carriers and a municipality; each in the context of their respective interests in workers’ compensation claims.  On March 20, 2008 she became the first African-American female Judge of Workers’ Compensation in New Jersey and only the 5th African-American Judge of Workers’ Compensation in New Jersey since 1911.
In January of 2015, Judge French attained her current position as Administrative Supervising Judge and in January of 2018 she was reassigned to the Camden District Office.  As an ASJ, Judge French is responsible for supervising the Trenton, Bridgeton and the Mt. Holly District offices in addition to her own vicinage.
Judge French enjoys teaching and presents regularly to her peers on the bench and to the workers’ compensation bar.  She has also been an Adjunct Professor of Workers’ Compensation Law at Rutgers University, Camden School of Law and Widener University Law School in Wilmington, Delaware.  In the Fall of 2015, Judge French taught Workers’ Compensation for Paralegals at Rowan College of Gloucester County in a pilot program featuring Contemporary Issues of Law.
