John Madden

Biography

Hon. John Madden is a state District Court judge in Denver, Colorado. Immediately prior to being appointed to the bench, Judge Madden was a partner for  11 years in a civil litigation firm that had an emphasis in construction defect litigation. During that time, he worked on cases involving both commercial and residential construction, handled plaintiff and defense cases, and was involved in single party, multi-party, and class action lawsuits. He also worked closely with insurers in planning the related litigations, conducting mediations, and structuring settlements. He was appointed to the Denver District Court bench in 2006 and has since presided over a variety of matters including numerous construction and insurance related cases. He has also maintained a particular interest in trial practice, and he teaches law school courses in basic, advanced, and commercial trial practice, annually teaches trial skills at programs presented by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and has coached high school, undergraduate, and law school mock trial teams.
