Biography

Richard W. Berne, Esq is a founding member of the firm. For the past 40 years he has represented clients and tried cases in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, nursing home defense, medical malpractice, insurance defense litigation, insurance coverage disputes, general liability, workers’ compensation defense, criminal defense, governmental liability, and police misconduct.  Mr. Berne handles cases in state and federal courts from inception through settlement, trial and appeal, and has significant experience conducting mediations and arbitrations.  Mr. Berne’s extensive litigation experience includes handling corporate and business litigation matters involving contract disputes and related tort claims.

He was previously a partner and managed the insurance defense team of a regional law firm in New York where he represented cases encompassing medical malpractice, nursing home defense, insurance coverage issues, appeals and administrative hearings.  Previously, and for over 17 years, he represented plaintiffs as a partner of a New York law office where he handled cases involving allegations of deprivation of rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, 42 USC Sec. 1983.  His experience involved cases stemming from false arrest, malicious prosecution, police misconduct, personal injury and medical malpractice.
