Clifford Stubbs defends employers', insurance carriers', and third party administrators' workers' compensation claims in Kansas and Missouri. He aggressively represents his clients at trial and appellate levels of the litigation process. Mr. Stubbs works with clients to manage all aspects of the injury continuum, including evaluating appropriate employment policies, implementing aggressive on-site injury management, and educating employers and supervisors. He often evaluates Medicare set-aside requirements.
Mr. Stubbs effectively defends permanent total disability claims, death claims, and complex occupational disease claims in both Kansas and Missouri. In Kauffman v. Hehr International, he obtained a complete denial of workers' compensation benefits in a Kansas case involving an undocumented heart rhythm disruption resulting in a tractor-trailer rollover and death. Additionally, Mr. Stubbs defends complex occupational disease claims. He recently litigated a latent abdominal aortic aneurysm claim in Missouri to its successful resoluation.
Mr. Stubbs chaired the Workers' Compensation Committee of the American Bar Association's Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. He authors articles for the committee's newsletter and regularly presents workers' compensation seminars for clients, industry groups, and the bar, including the National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. The Kansas Bar Association recognized Mr. Stubbs as the Outstanding Young Lawyer in Kansas in 1997, Ingram's Magazine recognized him as one of the Top 40 Most Influential Kansas Citians Under 40 and K.C. Magazine named him as a Kansas-Missouri Super Lawyer in Workers' Compensation. In 2012, Mr. Stubbs was inducted as a fellow in The College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Stubbs is a shareholder with the firm and serves as Vice President of its Board of Directors. He has served on the Executive Council and Board of Governors for the Wyandotte County Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, the American Bar Association - YLD, and the American Bar Association - TIPS. In addition to serving on various charity boards in the Kansas City area, Mr. Stubbs chaired the Disaster Legal Services Committee for the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) and coordinated disaster legal services for individuals affected by natural disasters throughout the country. Mr. Stubbs was his senior class president at the University of Kansas, where he received his undergraduate and juris doctorate degrees, and is an avid Jayhawk fan. He is a member of Christ Church in Overland Park and spends much of his free time with his two children.
