Kathleen Olear

Biography

Kathleen is currently an Assistant VP , Claims Counsel with Sompo International managing Environmental and A&E Claims focused on the construction sector. Kathleen was a Claims Manager with Markel from 2004-2021. She and her team managed environmental and energy claims throughout North America. In February 2013, Kathleen also assumed responsibility for management of a specialty lines professional liability claims team for Markel.  Prior to joining Markel, Kathleen served as Claims Counsel with Kemper Insurance Companies where she was responsible for direct handling of complex claim management under primary and excess policies with regard to cost containment, contractors pollution liability, professional liability (A&E) and environmental impairment liability claims.  Prior to that, she worked as Senior Trial Attorney for CNA Insurance Companies, responsible for all aspects of coverage litigation for company business units including environmental, mass tort and alternative financial products.  Kathleen also worked for Kemper Environmental as Supervisory Claims Counsel and Environmental Claims Counsel, where she provided management and supervision of environmental and general liability claims.  She also has over ten years of experience in private practice, where she specialized in environmental insurance litigation.
Kathleen holds a BA in English Literature from Fairfield University and is a graduate of Seton Hall Law School. She is admitted to the New Jersey Bar, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a licensed adjuster in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Nevada, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida. She resides in Stevensville, Montana where she enjoys fly fishing and gardening.
