Cathy Zwaan

Biography

Cathy Zwaan is a claims examiner responsible for managing hospitality liquor liability, excess umbrella and coverage/bad faith exposures. USLI, a Berkshire Hathaway company. USLI underwrites specialty insurance products for small businesses nationwide. She previously held the position of litigation manager.

Cathy has over 30 years of experience in a wide variety of insurance industry positions, including leadership roles, with the majority of experience in the claims arena. She has specialized in managing various complex indemnity and coverage claims in various product lines, with a focus in liquor liability and excess/umbrella while employed with USLI, Reliance Insurance Company, Penn National Insurance, and Global Indemnity Insurance Company.

As Litigation Manager for USLI, Cathy was responsible for the selection, appointment, evaluation and oversight of high-quality and cost-effective defense counsel for all venues and jurisdictions nationwide. She is also responsible for developing internal processes and procedures to create a climate for the claim professionals and attorneys to jointly strategize with the ultimate goal of practical bottom-line driven claim resolutions.

Cathy was a finalist for the 2015 CLM Litigation Management Professional of the Year award. She serves on the Executive Council and faculty for CLM's School of Claims Mediation as well as the ADR committee.
