Biography

I am an accomplished and seasoned insurance claims professional with experience in the insurer, reinsurer, third party administrator (TPA), broker, and corporate risk management arenas, possessing multi-jurisdictional expertise across diverse coverage lines.

I have a valued reputation among claims professionals, TPA's, risk managers, insurers, General Counsel's office, outside attorneys, brokers, and suppliers because of consistently demonstrated competence in litigation, reserve, expense, and supplier management; compliance; coverage and contract analysis; risk mitigation; and policy wording. I am recognized as able to favorably resolve complex and high-exposure claims by leveraging the expertise of all stakeholders in the claims process and encouraging them to bring their "full game" to the table. Other strengths include analytical, organizational, legal*, and writing expertise.

My professional passion is to pursue excellence in outcomes through "making things better by doing things better" in these interrelated risk mitigation disciplines:
1) Placement risk (favoring near-term lower premium spend over protection critical to the enterprise in the long-term, and not understanding what is NOT covered);
2) Contract risk (not recognizing how contractual risk transfer wording that "looks good on paper" actually plays out in claim scenarios);
3) Supplier risk (compromising on accountability and full best practices execution); and,
4) Claim risk (sub-par claim handling, unsatisfactory claim outcomes, and adverse loss development).

To accomplish this, I like to ask these questions:
1) What is not working -- i.e., what is falling short of expectations or objectives?
2) Why is it not working -- i.e., what are the vulnerabilities or deficiencies in processes, systems, ideas, environments, culture, and/or people?
3) How can we fix or improve it -- i.e., what resources and synergies are required to achieve the desired outcome?

Then, I strive to bring together risk, claims, sourcing, broker, and/or legal managers in a collaborative effort to devise the requisite solutions -- which is a very satisfying endeavor indeed.
