Back to topEver Changing Landscape of Biometrics
- Speakers:
Bruce Ackerman, AU10TIX
Simi George, NeuralMetrics
Robyn Lauber, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance

Increasingly, companies are using biometric data, such as fingerprints and retinal scans, as a convenient way to improve security. From touchpads that unlock smartphones and computers, to scanners providing access to places of business, biometric data seems to be a fast, easy, and secure way to authenticate individuals and unlock access. However, the collection and storing of biometric data can be risky, and the regulatory landscape is changing. As such, insurance coverage for claims alleging violation of biometric data privacy laws may be creating coverage gaps. This session will address an overview of biometric liability risk, real world applications of organizations using biometric data, legal, and regulatory developments, coverage issues related to biometric claims, and expected future developments.
Back to top2023 Data Privacy Regulation and Compliance
These panelists will stoke the fires on these hot topics in U.S. data privacy regulation and business data protection responsibilities under state and federal laws. During the 2022-23 legislative cycle, comprehensive privacy laws were enacted by ten states (so far) with more privacy bills pending. Experts will discuss approaches to crafting an evolving privacy compliance program; key privacy concerns to focus on and best practices for businesses, as well as critical compliance lessons to be learned from the Attorney General and federal agency enforcement.
Back to topProperly Handling Catastrophic Losses Reduces Insane Verdicts
Have you noticed an increase in the number and amount requested in verdicts lately? You're not alone. Engage with panelists to learn more about why we are seeing such a rise in runaway verdicts compared to previous years. The discussion will help claims and litigation professionals be more ready for the unimaginable, including catastrophic losses resulting from buildings collapsing to school shootings. Anything could happen at any time but planful handling of such claims can impact the financial outcome.
Back to topActive Shooter Scenarios
2023 is breaking records for being the most violent year over the past decade. Most organizations are unprepared for the worst-case scenario, yet they know they can be held liable for claims relating to deadly weapon violence. Failure to prepare and protect against these events not only could result in harm to your critical assets—your people, your brand, your reputation—but they can also result in business interruption and economic harm. This panel will share compelling data and real-life, hands-on experiences in both prevention of and response to deadly weapon events. They will share case studies ranging from large scale events involving fatalities and injuries to circumstances where violence was prevented from the outset. Attendees will leave with proactive strategies they can employ to help prevent, prepare for, and respond to this exposure, as well as post-event strategies that can be deployed immediately to reduce both frequency and severity of claims.
