On technology trends: “One trend we’re seeing a lot of is the ability to stream remote testimony, whether that’s a deposition or an examination under oath. The other thing we’re seeing a fair amount of interest in is synchronizing an examination’s transcript with a video. What that means is instead of having to play through a lot of video, you can go right to a spot in the transcript and see what the witness is doing physically. This has proven very useful to many professionals.”
On helping ClaimVets launch: “ClaimVets really spoke to our company not only because it is specific to an industry that we understand, but also because it is very focused on helping to identify those returning veterans who would be a good fit for our industry and helping them figure out how to make that transition. When we saw that the CLM was involved with that, we reached out and offered to assist with their big initial fundraising launch event. We worked on a promotional video, which had the purpose of summarizing all of the different opportunities that would exist for returning veterans under the program, what the need was, and really set the stage for why the CLM was asking for support. It was a huge success.”
On why ClaimVets is personal: “My dad is Bruce Crandall; he is a Medal of Honor recipient for actions that happened in Vietnam. If you’ve ever seen the movie We Were Soldiers, which was directed by Randall Wallace and starred Mel Gibson, my dad was played by Greg Kinnear. As the son of a career Army officer and growing up with that, I really respect and appreciate what our veterans do and how important their work is to our country. I think most people realize that our veterans need our support, and for us to be able to donate our services to help returning veterans meant a lot to me personally and to us as a company.”
On his favorite app: “There are many amazing apps, but for collaboration and sharing, Dropbox is fantastic. There also are some great apps that provide access to information such as the federal rules of civil procedures and rules of evidence, which is essential if you’re dealing with claims and litigation. State-specific apps are great, too. For example, if you’re dealing with different regulations in Washington, and the insurance commissioner has just passed a new statute or regulation, you’re able to get that immediately updated on the app and have that information at the touch of a button.”
