It’s a new year at Claims Management, but instead of making resolutions, we’re skipping the platitudes and going right for results, CLM style. Here’s what you can expect in 2013.

The first new addition to the magazine will be a bi-monthly column written by Jessica Smythe that addresses emerging trends in Medicare compliance and billing issues. I first met Jessica when she presented at CLM’s 2012 Worker’s Compensation mini-conference in Columbus, Ohio, and was blown away not only by her comprehension of the topic, but also by her ability to convey it with humor and panache. Her first column appears on p. 18.

We also are launching a monthly investigative column dubbed “Fraud Squad.” With the help of Insurance Fraud Committee Chair Cathy Gicker, we will cull expertise from a revolving list of contributors to provide practical skills and strategies on handling insurance fraud. First up is Ralph Burnham, executive director of the Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority. Read his article by clicking here.

We’re also continuing our coverage of CLM’s Claims College. Each month, we’ll offer insights into this unprecedented effort at educating the industry by speaking with those intimately involved with its planning and execution. See my interview with School of Transportation Dean Tamara Warn by clicking here.

I hope you enjoy the additions to the magazine. Here’s to a happy, more informed New Year.
