A new member/fellow benefit is coming to CLM’s webinar series in 2020: In addition to offering topical and practical information nearly every week, many of these webinars will now qualify for an hour of continuing education in certain states.
Offering CE for its webinars has been a goal of CLM since early 2019, and several webinars that took place late last year served as a de facto pilot program to test out the process and iron out any wrinkles. With that said, here’s what you need to know about earning CE by attending CLM’s webinars.
Earning CE Requires Attention to Detail. To earn a CE credit, attendees must watch the entire 60 minutes of a webinar, answer two poll questions, and respond to three attendance prompts. On the content development side, presenters will face similar requirements as they do when presenting at any one of CLM’s conferences—that means developing presentation materials sometimes months in advance of the webinar in order to get it approved through participating states.
Number of Participating States Is Growing. For CLM’s previously mentioned pilot program, 19 states approved one hour of CE for participating. They included Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. That number is expected to grow throughout the year.
CLM Will Help Manage the Process. CLM’s webinars are open to everyone, not just members and fellows. But those who are part of CLM get a big perk: All of the required reporting for CE will be done for them—no muss, no fuss. Just be sure that your license numbers are included in your CLM profile. Non-members, however, will have to manually download a certificate of completion and submit the proper paperwork themselves. (You know what they say—membership has its rewards.)
Certification Is Ongoing. Not every CLM webinar in 2020 will count for CE credit, so be sure to check listings at theclm.org to see which ones will qualify.
