It’s time to take your understanding and grasp of litigation management to the next level by earning the highly valued Certified Litigation Management Professional (CLMP) designation.
CLM’s Litigation Management Institute (LMI) begins on Oct. 19 in Chicago. Past attendees have called this intensive event “transformational” and “eye-opening” for its coursework and emphasis on teamwork—the demanding training program offers students two full days concentrated on coursework along with committed time for student group work sessions.
LMI Chancellor Larry Beemer, of Tokio Marine HCC, states, “I think the best part is seeing the students at the end. I’ve had so many students come up to me, especially lawyers, and say, ‘Wow, this is the hardest thing I’ve done since law school and it’s also the best thing. I will never run my law firm the same after what I learned here.’”
Courses are taught by leading claims experts, defense attorneys, and litigation management professionals. Upon completion, students will earn the CLMP designation, recognizing their knowledge and commitment to the program. Along with the designation, students will earn 24 continuing education credits.
The event is purposely limited to 100 participants, giving students personalized instruction along with in-depth interaction with both fellow students and faculty. Per Chancellor Chris Carucci, of Gallagher Bassett, “I think the interaction between the outside counsel and the adjusters is fantastic. It’s a really great exchange of ideas. It’s an intense program, as I tell everybody, but I think it’s fulfilling. And, for us, I’ve built great relationships through it—not just through the faculty but with students who I still keep in touch with.”
The coursework bridges the business of litigation management with the legal side of a claim and includes coverage of metrics, data management, and budgeting. Along with in-class learning and discussions, students are guided through a case study of a litigated claim. They work in small teams to identify the litigation strategy and report their findings back to faculty.
Students have found that this close camaraderie has led to lifelong personal and professional relationships. Per Michele Newman. of Hamlin & Burton Liability Management (LMI Class of 2011), “I have friends today that I met at LMI. Since you work as a cohort, you build lasting relationships there.”
Jannea Rogers, of Adams and Reese, LLP (LMI Class of 2016) remembers, “I learned more in four days of LMI than I did in the last 25 years.”
A typical attendee will have more than 10 years of professional experience as an outside counsel or litigation management professional. If this sounds like the type of event you’ve been looking for, and you are ready to immerse yourself in a demanding program where you can increase your knowledge as well as your professional network, then be sure to join us.
LMI runs from Oct. 19-22 at the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago. We kick things off with a welcome dinner on Thursday, Oct. 19, followed by two solid days of coursework and student group work. On Sunday, Oct. 22, we wrap up with final coursework and certification.
